October 2022 Indoor Season Preview

October 2022 Indoor Season Preview

October always heats up on the ATP Tour. It is the last month of the year where crucial ranking points are at stake. As a result, players are keen on participating in all the indoor tournaments throughout Europe with the hope to finish the year strong. For the top players, it is a final push in order to qualify for the ATP finals.

Let’s look at the ATP indoor events

There is a total of eight indoor tournaments this season to choose from, three of which are 500 level, and one 1000. Each player can potentially accumulate a total of 2,000 points. That’s as much as a Grand Slam. That’s of course if they win out the calendar in October which is very unlikely to happen. However, it is entirely possible for a player on a hot streak to accumulate a quick 1,000 points during this stretch. That would change the rankings considerably. The tournaments are as follows:

  • Astana Open (500 ATP Points) October 3 – October 9
  • Gijon Open (250 ATP Points) October 10 – October 16
  • UniCredit Firenze Open (250 ATP Points) October 10 – October 16
  • European Open (250 ATP Points) October 17 – October 23
  • Stockholm Open (250 ATP Points) October 17 – October 23
  • Ereste Bank Open (500 ATP Points) October 24 – October 30
  • Swiss Indoors Basel (500 ATP Points) October 24 – October 30
  • Rolex Paris Masters (1000 ATP Points)

All these tournaments should have big time tennis star power. However, be on the lookout for the last one, the Paris Masters. All the top ranked guys will be showing up for that, and it’s usually a spectacular event with lots of exciting matches throughout the week.

Basel and the Ereste Bank Open are the second most important tournaments in this indoor swing. They hold 1,000 ranking points between them and happen right before the Paris Masters. A sense of urgency will definitely be present at these two events. It will be one of the the last chances for many players to get some coveted ATP points. So, mark your calendars!
