Kyrgios Makes a Statement – Again!

The ink was not even fresh on my write up about Kyrgios making a statement at Acupulco by beating a strong field that included Nadal, Wawrinka, Isner and Zverev, and then he goes and loses in his first match at Indian Wells. Welcome back Kyrgios!

In what turned out to be a very competitive match against Kohlschreiber, Kyrgios struggled against the veteran and lost his cool late in the first set after a few slips caused by his shoes. Trying to get the break back at 5-6, to get back on serve, he slipped again on a pivotal point, proceeded to smash his racket and then after he actually lost the set, threw his shoes into the crowd.

Never a dull moment with Kyrgios! So now we’ll have to wait and see how he performs in Miami. I for one thought he was going to take his momentum from winning in Mexico to Indian Wells. Turns out he used that momentum to smash a racket and throw his shoes into the crowd. Either way, I think Kyrgios was pissed off and lost his cool because he is actually trying really hard. Which should be good news for fans of Kyrgios – like myself!

So, let’s see if he gets a more favorable draw in Miami. Also, let’s just pretend he’s still riding the momentum of winning the Mexican Open and will tear up the field in Miami. Miami should also be more his speed. He can go jet skiing before matches, enjoy the beach, get inspiration from the Latino contingent and more!
