Indian Wells 2022 – US Men to Watch

As of late, the US is experiencing a renaissance in men’s tennis talent. These youngsters will be on display at Indian Wells this week. Who should we be looking out for?

Jenson Brooksby (43)

Jenson has had some impressive outings in the last few months. He’s reached the Dallas final in 2022 to add to a solid round of 16 showing at the US Open and a semifinal appearance at Washington last summer. Jenson will need to get through Carballes Baena in the first round, to set up potential meetings against Khachanov (25) in the second round and Tsitsipas (4) in the third round. Those are tough matchups for the youngster. If he gets through Tsitsipas, Medvedev awaits in the fourth round. That is as far as he can go.

Reilly Opelka (17)

Reilly has a pretty good draw and will open with either Giron or Musetti in the second round. From there a potential matchup with Shapovalov (13) looms. If he gets past Shapovalov, and I think the big-serving American will take care of business, a tantalizing matchup with Nadal (4) is on the horizon. Nadal is the hottest player on tour right now. This will be no walk in the park for Nadal though. Opelka is a nightmare to break, and Nadal could get tight in those tie breaks.

Taylor Fritz (20)

My favorite player out of all the US men is Taylor. He’s got an entertaining game and is capable of some top-level shot-making. Lately, he’s also shown he can hang with the very best of the ATP. His draw looks pretty good too. He’s got Carreno Busta (16) in the third round, followed by the potential matchup with a struggling Zverev (3) in the fourth. From there Berrettini (6) looms in the quarters. All these matches are winnable for Fritz if he’s playing well. And with the crowd behind him, anything is possible. A semifinal appearance is possible for Taylor.

Frances Tiafoe (28)

My second favorite US men’s player is Tiafoe. He’s got power, charisma, and talent. If Tiafoe can get past Rublev (7) in the third round, he’s got a pretty good road to the semifinal. Hurkacz (11) and Schwartzman are the highest seeds he could face on the road to the quarters. Berrettini would await in the quarters. All winnable matches.
