French Open 2020 Predictions – Men’s Semifinals
The Men’s Semifinals are set. Here’s our preview and predictions for the two matches on tap for Friday at Roland Garros
(2) Rafael Nadal vs. (12) Diego Schwartzman
Schwartzman has been on absolute fire in the last month, reaching the finals of the Italian Open and now the semifinals of the French Open. Schwartzman cruised into the quarterfinals where he met tournament favorite and two-time French Open finalist Dominic Thiem. Their meeting delivered a classic five setter that will be talked about for years to come. Five hard fought sets and five hours later, Schwartzman was the winner. His reward: Rafael Nadal, the 12-time champ who has not lost a set on his way to the semifinals of the French Open. Nadal will be fresh as a daisy in this encounter, and he’ll need to be. Fresh in his mind will be his loss to Schwartzman a couple of weeks ago at the Italian Open. In that match Schwartzman made Nadal look ordinary and sluggish. I doubt that will be the case in this semifinal. Nadal will get his revenge on Schwartzman. Nadal will win in four sets.
Novak Djokovic (1) vs. (5) Stefanos Tsitsipas
It’s a testament to Tsitsipas’ mental toughness that he is in the semifinals of the French Open. Just three weeks ago, he was giving up three match points on his serve to Borna Coric, in the third round of the US Open. About 99% of players would not recover mentally in such a short period of time. But Tsitsipas is not just any player, he’s one of the most positive players around – add to that a formidable game. Tsitsipas has torn through the draw without losing a set. Leaving in his wake high quality opponents such as Dimitrov and Rublev. He now takes on the number one player in the world, and hottest player on tour this year, Novak Djokovic. As much as one would think there will be a competitive match here, I doubt there will be. Djokovic is a currently a step above the competition. The only man that can beat Djokovic at the French Open is Rafael Nadal. Djokovic will win in four sets.
