Australian Open Draw Predictions- Men’s Best Match Ups

The draw is out! So, what are best match ups?

Fourth round: Nadal vs. Kyrgios. These guys met twice last year. In the first matchup, Kyrgios got the better of Nadal in Acapulco, and controversy ensued as Nadal criticized Kyrgios’ attitude. Two months later, they played a classic fourth setter in the second round of Wimbledon with Nadal coming on top. This time they are in Kyrgios’ home turf. Expect fireworks down under if these two meet again in the fourth round. Advantage Kyrgios.

Semifinal: Federer vs. Djokovic. Federer plays well in Australia. Unless its against Djokovic. The fact that Federer needs to get through Djokovic to reach the final puts a damper on his quest for his 7th Australian Open title. Advantage Djokovic.

Third Round: Monfils vs. Thiem. This is where Thiem’s title hopes end. Monfils is too solid and experienced on a hard court. He will take Thiem to task in this third-round encounter. That is of course if Thiem can make it through the second round. Advantage Monfils.

Third round: Medvedev vs. Wawrinka: Don’t discount Wawrinka, the three time Grand Slam champion and a former Australian Open champion. Medvedev will need to come out at full strength to get through. Stan the man can take the racket out of you if you’re not careful. Advantage Medvedev.

Quarters: Tsitispas vs. Djokovic. If anyone can stop Novak in his tracks, and clear the way for Federer, it’s Tsitsipas. They have met four times and split their encounters 2-2. However, Tsitsipas is rising quickly, has a massive game, and has nothing to lose. Still, Djokovic showed some fine form at the ATP Cup. Advatage Djokovic
