AO22 Best Early Round Matchups – Men’s Draw

Here are the best five matchups you should look out for in the first week.

Second Round: Medvedev (2) vs. Kyrgios

H2H – Kyrgios 2 Medvedev 0

It seems like it will be a short Australian Open for Kyrgios. No matter though, this should be a very entertaining match. Kyrgios can have a shot if he takes Medvedev to a tie break in each set. That’s how he beat Medvedev in the final of the 2019 Washington Open. One thing is for sure, the crowd will be electric for this one.

Third Round: Alcaraz (31) vs. Berrettini (7)

H2H – Alzraz 1 Berrettini 0

Youth vs. Sheer blunt power. Berrettini lost a close one to Alcaraz in the quarters of Vienna last year. It went three sets with the decider going to a tie break. Expect fireworks in this one. Alcaraz is an up-and-coming star while Berrettini is working to solidify his elite status.

First Round: Murray vs. Basilashvili (21)

H2H – Murray 2 Basilashvili 0

Murray just played Basilashvili in Sidney and came out on top after three long sets that included two tie-breaks. The Georgian is very talented and is quite the shot maker. This could turn out to be a very entertaining five-set affair. Must watch TV for sure!

Second Round: Fritz (20) vs. Tiafoe

H2H – Fritz 2 Tiafoe 1

The battle of two of the most talented Americans will happen in the second round. Fritz has won the last two matches against Tiafoe, however, all three matches happened in 2019. A lot has happened since then. Tiafoe has been coming up with big upsets at Grand Slams lately, taking out Tsitsipas at Wimbledon and Rublev at the US Open. Will Fritz fall to Tiafoe?

Second Round: Nadal (6) vs. Kokkinakis

H2H – Nadal 1 Kokkinakis 0

Kokkinakis is on fire to start the season, posting deep runs in the two tournaments leading up to the Australian Open. A healthy Kokkinakis with the Australian crowd behind him will give Nadal all sorts of problems. This may very well be the best match of the first week.
