Acapulco 2020 Predictions

This is the tournament that kickstarted Kyrgios’ fine form during the summer months of last year. He was down multiple match points to Nadal in the early rounds but survived and went on to beat Zverev in the final. Kyrgios comes into 2020 with a new attitude but the same dangerous and unpredictable game that gives opponents trouble.

Nadal will be there just like last year. However, this year Kyrgios will be a high seed, so he will not run the chance of meeting Nadal in the early going. This is good for tennis, because fans would love nothing else than to see Nick Kyrgios in a final against Rafa Nadal.

It’s not all Nadal and Kyrgios in Acapulco though. Alexander Zverev will also be there and is in fine form after a solid Australian Open semifinal appearance. He’ll likely be one of the top four seeds and will be looking to win this title. I expect him to make at least the semifinals.

Stan Wawrinka is also playing. He’s another player that has been looking dangerous as of late. His Quarterfinal run at the Australian Open is no fluke. Stan is back, and in full fitness. He’ll be dangerous as a lower seed in this tournament and looking to cut one of the top four seeds’ run short.

Two other players I consider extremely dangerous in this tournament are Matteo Berrettini and Alex de Minaur. Berrettini is an absolute beast, while de Minaur is almost like a mini Nadal. Both have been making lots of noise as of late. And I don’t expect that trend not to continue.

So, what can we look forward at Acapulco? I’m going to go with my heart here and predict a Nadal vs. Kyrgios final. Or I predict a Nadal vs. Zverev final. Either way, as well as Nadal is playing, I expect him to win this title once again.
