Adidas and Nike Are Tennis Icons
Ever since I was a little kid playing tennis, two brands have been at the forefront of everything tennis.
Those brands are Nike and Adidas. Back in the 80s, Nike was the American upstart while Adidas had been well established through the decades. Fast forward to 2022, and it’s fair to say that Adidas and Nike are the top brands in the tennis world. One merely needs to take a look at both the WTA and ATP tours to see the extent of their dominance.
When I was growing up, star players like Agassi were wearing Nike, while European players like Ivan Lendl and Stefan Edberg were decked out in Adidas. I’ve always appreciated both brands. Growing up I owned all the Agassi gear as well as all the Edberg gear.
As we headed into the 2000s Rafa and Roger kept Nike high in people’s imagination while amazing players like Marat Safin flew the Adidas flag proudly.
One of the things I love about these two brands is their ability to innovate while still having retro styles available. For example, if I want the best equipment on the tennis court, I can either go with the Vapor Pro series from Nike or the Barricade from Adidas.
However, if I want to lounge around on a Saturday, I can wear my Stan Smith’s. There’s nothing like the subtle retro style of Stan Smith Adidas shoes.
It’s not all about the shoes though. The attire both these brands bring to tennis are always at the top of any tennis enthusiasts list. Nike usually has the more colorful and forward-looking kits, while Adidas tends to be a bit more conservative and status quo.
I tend to gravitate to Rafa’s line with Nike. I love the neon he often wears, such as his summer Challenger top. And of course, you can never go wrong with his bull horn logo! Vamos!
The ladies’ attire has been just as colorful this summer, with many ladies wearing the Print Slam Dress from Nike. It’s currently 20% off so hurry.
Although much of the Adidas attire is more understated, you can always get something a little funky and crazy in their line. For example, the new US Series Printed Freelift Crew looks like an urban-style billboard. If you indeed want something more classic and understated, I suggest you go with their new Men’s US Series Polo.
Whatever your needs may be, you can always find something that fits your style and functional needs on the tennis court from both Adidas and Nike. As a bonus, you get to sport their cool logos. Nothing is more classic than either the Nike swoosh or the three stripes from Adidas. What are you waiting for?
