Iga Swiatek just collected her third French Open crown and fourth Grand Slam overall.

There’s no disputing her greatness and her hold on this surface. Iga is merely 22 years old and will be a tough customer at the French Open for years to come. Aside from a tough final, Swiatek cruised at this tournament.

Her heavy topspin groundstrokes are no match for the rest of the field. In my opinion, Swiatek is a little like the Rafa Nadal of the women’s game. I don’t see anybody challenging her at the French Open in the foreseeable future. She has the potential to add 4-5 French Opens in the next few years.

Although for the most part, she easily won the final, you have to give credit to Muchova. She was able to take out Iga’s biggest threat at the tournament, Sabalenka, in the semis. Like everyone else, I was also looking forward to seeing a Sabalenka vs. Swiatek final. Sabelenka seemed to be playing with abandon, going for her shots and blowing people off the court.

Her quarterfinal against Svitolina was a testament to this aggressive style of play. Things were going well for Sabalenka in the semifinal against Muchova, but somehow Sabalenka lost her way in the third set. No matter, Sabalenka is a force to be reckoned with and she’ll be back with a vengeance at Wimbledon and then the US Open.

Sabalenka has a real shot at capturing the last two Grand Slams of the year with the type of aggressive game she’s playing.
Special mention to Svitolina, who after a long layoff and giving birth, not only won her first tournament immediately before the French Open, but also reached the Quarterfinals at the French Open.

I’d almost forgotten how scrappy of a player Svitolina was. I have a feeling we’ll see a lot more of her and her tenacious game all summer long. It’s off to the grass courts we go!
