This week we look at some of the top movers in the ATP in the last year. These can be youngsters or oldsters that have moved up significantly in the rankings or have posted great results as of late. Here’s our list!

1.Ben Shelton

All the talk has been around this youngster. He’s played a total of four ATP-level events and has already reached the quarters of a Grand Slam. Although he was convincingly beaten by Tommy Paul, Shelton showed he has a bright future ahead of him. He’s a lefty whose shots carry a lot of intent. His lefty slice serves alone should be enough to keep this kid in the top 20 for years to come. He also has a nasty inside-out forehand with a lot of power that can really do some damage to righties. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for this youngster. 

2. Holger Rune

Holger is another youngster who broke out in 2022. He went from being ranked outside the top 100 in 2021 to finishing 11 in the world in 2022. That is quite the move. He’s got an all-court game and intensity to match the likes of Novak Djokovic, and match he did by beating the maestro at the Paris Masters final to capture his first Masters series tournament at 19 years of age. 

3. Yoshihito Nishioka

Nishioka, much like Diego Schwartzman is short in stature but big on the game. After hanging around outside of the top 50 for the majority of his career, 2022 turned out to be a big year for the 27-year-old, reaching the final of the Washington Open and winning the Korea Open, beating Denis Shapovalov in the final. His reward was a ranking of 36 at the end of 2022. Nishioka has already posted a solid result, reaching the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open. Expect more consistent results from Nishioka moving forward. 

4. Borna Coric

After an injury-prone 2021, Coric found his old form in the later stages of 2022, winning the Cincinnati Masters along the way. He started 2022 ranked 73 in the world and finished 26. As many can remember, it was Coric who led the generation of players that include Zverev, Tsitsipas, and Kyrgios. 

5. Nick Kyrgios

At the beginning of 2022, nobody was expecting anything from a player that didn’t seem committed to tennis and was ranked outside the top 100. Fast forward a year, and Nick Kyrgios is inside the top 20, after going deep in masters tournaments, winning Washington, making the finals at Wimbledon, and the quarters at the US Open. 2023 looks bright for a player that has recommitted himself to the game.
