2021 Wimbledon Men’s Quarterfinals Predictions

The quarterfinals are upon us. For the most part, we’ve witnessed a pretty predictable men’s draw, with the top two favorites, Djokovic and Federer, advancing to the quarterfinals. If they keep taking care of business, they are on their way to a collision course in the final. If indeed they make it all the way there, the world will be watching, as Djokovic will attempt to tie both Federer’s and Nadal’s record 20 Grand Slams. What a blockbuster final it will be! However, before we can really start dreaming about that final, there’s a bunch of real contenders in the draw. What are their chances? Well, let’s look at the quarterfinal matchups.

Khachanov (25) vs. Shapovalov (10)

Both these guys can win this tournament. Both are looking sharp and have played some amazing matches against quality opponents. Shapovalov has a natural athleticism and shot-making ability that Khachanov lacks. However, Khachanov has big powerful strokes that can take the racket out of your hands. It will be power against grit in this one. In the end, I think Shapovalov may have a little bit of an edge on the grass this year.

Berrettini (7) vs. Auger Aliassime (16)

Auger Aliassime has been playing sublime tennis. Berrettini has been playing great tennis. I think sublime tennis wins over great tennis in this matchup. Auger Aliassime showed maturity, focus, and resilience in his five-set win over fourth seed Zverev. Berrettini has not played a seed yet. Auger Aliassime may very well win his first grand slam tournament if he keeps up his level of play.

Djokovic (1) vs. Fucsovics

It’s been a nice run for Fucsovics. His run will end in the quarterfinals. Djokovic is at the top of his game, and there is nobody in this side of the draw that can take him down in a best of five match at a Grand Slam. It certainly won’t be the unseeded Hungarian. Look for Djokovic to continue his run into the semifinals in straight sets.

Federer (6) vs. Hurkacz (14)

Hurkacz seems to be playing well again after a horrible clay-court season. Hurkacz seems to play well in the hard courts and deserves his spot in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately for Hurkacz, he’s about to run into the Federer Express on grass. Federer is the greatest of all time on grass, and with the crowd behind him, and his game peaking at the right time, it’s difficult to see how Hurkacz can get through Federer. Federer wins in four tough sets.
