The men’s final is set. On Sunday we will be treated to watching Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev fight it out for the US Open title. It is no surprise to see either of these players in the final. They are both in fine form. For Thiem, this will be his fourth major final. For Zverev, this will be his first final.

So, who’s got the edge in this match?

Thiem leads the head to head 7-2 and has won the last three meetings. If their last meeting is any indication, this will be extremely entertaining. As many can remember, they provided a four-set thriller at the 2020 Australian Open earlier this year. That match was as competitive as they come and included two tie-breaks.

Expect a lot more of the same from both players; power from the baseline, extended rallies, incredible winners, booming serves, and a refusal to give up. After all, this will be the first grand slam for either of these players.

If there was an edge in this match, it will have to go to Thiem. He’s slightly quicker and stronger, and he has grand slam final experience. He’ll bring all of that and more against Zverev on Sunday.

Zverev on the other hand may be able to take advantage of the added pressure Thiem will have to win his first grand slam after three failed attempts. Let’s be honest here, Thiem is 27 years old and is about to enter the latter end of his career. If he wants to be considered one of the best, he’s going to need to start collecting some grand slams.

Zverev on the other hand is still just 23 years old and has many years left to contend more grand slam finals. All that being said, Thiem has been mentally tough throughout this tournament, and there’s no reason to expect anything less. He will be the favorite heading into the final, and rightly so. My pick: Thiem in four entertaining sets.
