Australian Open Draw Predictions- Women Best Match Ups

The draw is out! So, what are the best match ups?

Round of 16: Barty vs. Riske. Riske had a wonderful season last year, making it to the quarters of Wimbledon, beating Barty in the third round on her way. Riske plays cerebral high percentage tennis, makes very little mistakes, can hit through the court, and has veteran experience. Barty will need to come out with her best tennis to get through.

Third Round: Yastremska vs. Williams. One year ago, Williams consoled Yastremska in the third round after beating her 6-2, 6-1. Two WTA titles later, an elite coach in Sasha Bajin, and a 22 world raking to her name, Yastremska will come out for blood. Williams will have to dig deep. Advantage Williams.

Quarters: Osaka vs. Williams: assuming Williams gets through Yastremska, she’ll have to play another Sasha Bajin protégé in Osaka. Osaka is still not at the level she was while picking up two Grand Slams in 18 and 19. Williams just picked up her first title since the Australian Open 2017 and usually doesn’t lose in the quarters of Grand Slams. Advantage Williams.

Third round: Collins vs. Halep. Which Halep will show? I don’t think it matters. Last year’s semifinalist Danielle Collins has been on fire in the warmup tournaments down under, beating the likes of Bencic 6-3, 6-1 and Svitolina 6-1, 6-1. Collins will come out swinging, and Halep may not be ready for the pace, pressure and urgency of it all. Advantage Collins
