2021 Wimbledon Women’s Quarterfinals Predictions
As messy as the women’s draw seemed during the first couple of rounds, it has now tightened up for the quarterfinals. The final eight includes the top two seeds, a former champion, and one of the best servers in the women’s game. Four out of the eight women are legit contenders to the Wimbledon crown. Let’s check out the matchups.
Pliskova (8) vs. Golubic
Golubic has had a great tournament. However, she benefited from chaos on her side of the draw. Pliskova will be the first top 10 player she faces in this tournament. She has not seen a serve like Pliskova’s. If Pliskova serves well, she’ll struggle. My money is on Pliskova serving well and moving on to the semifinals.
Muchova (19) vs. Kerber (25)
Muchova is playing some solid tennis. Kerber is looking like the Wimbledon Champion she once was. Beating Coco Gauff so decisively tells me her game is firing on all cylinders. Muchova on the other hand has shown she can play on grass, reaching the quarterfinals in 2019. Will the experience and lefty game Kerber possesses be enough to get her through? I think so. Kerber will be back in the semifinals for the first time since her Wimbledon title run in 2018.
Jabeur (21) vs. Sabalenka (2)
What a great tournament for Jabeur. She has fought her way into the Quarterfinals with pure will and grit. Sabalenka will be the clear favorite here though. That’s not to say it’s going to be an easy outing for Sabalenka. Although she is playing spectacular tennis at Wimbledon this year; she has not shown she can take that next step at the majors. Someone as gritty as Jabeur can give her some problems. Ultimately though, I believe Sabalenka has matured enough to get through. Sabalenka will be a Wimbledon semi finalist.
Barty (1) vs. Tomljanovic
In my opinion this is the most exciting matchup in the quarters. Both players are Australian and very popular with fans. Tomljanovic is finally playing up to her potential, while Barty is looking to win her first Wimbledon title. Aussies know how to play on grass. These two are sure to put on a show. In the end though, Tomljanovic will be outclassed by all the different ways Barty can beat you.
