Official Flex League Rules

How To Join A TennisPAL Flex League.

1. Download the TennisPAL app
2. Join a local league. Pick your city and register. Flex Leagues are organized in multiple seasons per year.
3. You’ll be placed in a group with 5-10 competitive players. Schedule matches in the app during the Play Period.
4. Submit match scores in the TennisPAL app to log results and rank in your group. Your best 6 matches are counted in your ranking.
5. The top 4 players join the playoffs to determine a champion.

Below are TennisPAL Flex League official rules. Please read these carefully.

At TennisPAL, we strive to create a competitive and fair environment for all players. To ensure consistency in match reporting, all matches played for TennisPAL Flex Leagues must follow these official match play rules.

1.  Code of Conduct

TennisPAL promotes fair play, honesty, and sportsmanship. All Flex League players must:

• Respect opponents and follow the Official TennisPAL Flex League Rules.
• Avoid excessive delays in replying to requests to play.
• Report scores accurately and honestly in the TennisPAL app.
• Coordinate with opponents to schedule matches in the TennisPAL app that work for both players.
• Arrive prior to the match start time to avoid a No Show report.
• Split any court fees. If a player no-shows, they must still reimburse the other player half of the court fee.
• Bring a can of new balls; play with one and the winner will take the other one.

Any disputes should be resolved between players first, and if needed, reported to TennisPAL Support via chat.
These official rules ensure fair competition and allow players to track progress accurately in TennisPAL.

2. Match Format

Best of 3 sets, traditional scoring.
For official reporting in TennisPAL, at least one full set must be completed for a match to be verified.

3. Set Scoring

Each set follows the standard 6-game format:

• A player must win six games with a two-game lead (e.g., 6-4, 7-5).
• If the set reaches 6-6, a tiebreak (first to 7 points, win by 2) will determine the winner.

4. Game Scoring

Each game follows traditional scoring:

• 0 (Love), 15, 30, 40, Game
• If both players reach 40-40 (Deuce), a player must win two consecutive points to win the game.

Players can agree to play No-Ad Scoring, where the next point after Deuce wins the game.

5. Tiebreak Rules

• 7-Point Tiebreak: First to 7 points, must win by 2 points (e.g., 7-5, 8-6).
• 10-Point Tiebreak: If playing a Match Tiebreak instead of a third set, the first to 10 points, win by 2 points, determines the match winner. Report this set as 1-0 to make it consistent with the actual 3rd set

The decision to play a 10-point Tiebreak has to be made before the start of the match and both parties have to agree. If the opponent is not in agreement, you should play a regular 3rd set. The 10-point tiebreaker will be reported as 1-0 to make it consistent with actual 3rd set result

6. Match Verification for TennisPAL

For a match to be officially recorded in TennisPAL:

1. The match must be played using one of the standard formats.
2. The final set score must be entered in the TennisPAL app.
3. Both players must verify the match result within the app.

Scores are always entered with your score listed first.

Only the following set scores are valid entries:
6-0, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, 1-0 and 0-6, 1-6, 2-6, 4-6, 5-7, 0-1

7. Earning Points

Players receive points based on the set scores of your match.

Point Calculations:
The Winning Player Receives:
12 points for a 3 set win
14 points for a 2 set win

The Losing Player Receives:
One point for each game won in their “two highest scoring sets”.
A losing player can receive up to a maximum of 8 points per match.

Example match score: 6-4, 6-2
winner receives 14 points
loser receives 6 points

Example match score: 6-2, 4-6, 7-5
winner receives 12 points
loser receives 8 points

8. Playoffs

At the end of the season, there will be a single elimination playoff among the top 4 players.
Semifinals are played as Player #1 vs #4, and Player #2 vs #3. Players have 2 weeks to play the semifinal match.
Finals are played by the two winners of the Semifinals. Players have 2 weeks to play the final match.

9. Serving Rules

• Players must alternate serves every game.
• The server must stand behind the baseline and serve diagonally into the service box.
• First and second serve rules apply; if both serves are faults, it results in a double fault and loss of the point.

In a tiebreak, serves alternate every two points after the first serve.

10. Changeovers & Breaks

• Players switch sides after every odd-numbered game (e.g., 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, etc.).
• A 90-second or any mutually agreed duration break is allowed during changeovers.
• A 2-minute or any mutually agreed duration set break is allowed between sets.

11. Default and Retirement Rules

• If a player retires mid-match, the opponent is awarded the remaining games and sets needed to win.
• If a player defaults before starting, the opponent wins by a walkover (W/O).
